Sun Microsystems SunFire V100

History: Top Isometric

This system is an entry level enterprise server built in a 1U rack form factor based on the Sun Netra X1. At the time it was marketed as the lowest cost UNIX server on the market (under $1000). As such it was the lower cost cousin to the V120 and used an IDE drive interface instead of SCSI.

It uses standard PC hardware (with the exception of ECC RAM). All drives are ATA100, it uses an ATX PSU and standard 3 pin fans. Granted the PSU is specially built for 1U form factor but still....

With no extraneous hardware on board all configuration is done via the Serial port. Once plugged in the built in LOM (Lights Out Management) is instantly available. From here you can choose to boot or perform low level hardware tasks. As with most servers it also remembers the last power state. So if the power goes out, it will turn itself back on when power is restored.
